Get to know our new intern, ShoaibAugust 2, 2017
This summer Webanywhere is lucky enough to welcome another exceptional summer intern. Shoaib is a student at the Notre Dame Catholic Sixth Form College, he’ll be working on a range of digital projects, and will be gaining from training and coaching from colleagues here at Webanywhere.
Let’s learn a bit more about Shoaib.
What’s your name and where are you from?
My full name is Mohammad Shoaib Ramzan however I prefer to be called Shoaib. My country of origin is Pakistan (however I was born in Leeds.)
When did you realise that computer science is what you were good at?
I realised I was good at computer science in year 6 when I was able to complete I.T tasks before other students in my class. This then lead to me being given the role of projector handler which meant during singing I got to sit on the chair at the front and scroll up and down on the keyboard and look at my friends who were sat on the cold school floor.
What areas of computer science interest you?
All aspects of Computer Science currently interest me. This is because I love designing and creating but I also like the aspect of networking and complex connections. I also like security and looking into encryption.
What are your career hopes for the future?
I want to work in the Computing field but I can’t specify the exact job as I haven’t chosen yet.
What do you hope to gain from your time with Webanywhere?
I hope to gain what running a business is like. I also want to find out how different people work together to create a harmonious company. I also want to learn about marketing and the part of the company which helps create the revenue.
What makes your day?
What makes my day is when i my neighbour (an old man who is deaf and lives in a care home) says hello to me in sign language. This always puts a smile on my face because of how happy he is.
What’s the funniest thing you have ever seen?
I can’t remember the funniest thing but I can recall my most recent exposure to something humorous. This occurred on my last day of a York Residential program. So group 5 were doing a presentation about the week and in the presentation the girl who was acting said she was going to be sick (in the scene) and then preceded to get up. She then ran at full speed into the door – thinking it was open – and instead there was a loud bang the entire audience broke into laughter even the group weren’t able to compose themselves.
What is your favourite book?
My favourite book has to be the Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire. This book was spectacular with vivid description and incredibly deep quotes about how overcoming fears. This book however when adapted as a film wasn’t made at the best standard it should have been and missed out key parts from the book.
What is your favourite city?
My favourite city which I have visited has to be Berlin. It is a diverse, rich and historic city. When I visited it I was astounded by how much history there was everything I had read in my history text books was now in front of me which made I still couldn’t believe. The highlights of the city was being able to see a nuclear bunker – even though it was only 12m under a multi-storey Car Park.
We are incredibly grateful to have Shoaib as part of our team, and we wish him to gain as much experience as possible during his internship. Welcome aboard Shoaib!
