The Science video above is one a a large collection of introductory videos that we have created to support teaching and learning in the Primary classroom. This video is part of our Primary Science video collection, which can be embedded into your website or VLE
This video is a great introduction to the topic of Healthy Teeth. However before watching the video it is worthwhile asking pupils to make suggestions about ways to keep their teeth healthy.
They could then tick off their suggestions as they are mentioned in the Healthy Teeth video, which helps to ensure that they are really engaged in watching and listening.
There are some very simple but effective ways of demonstrating the impact of good and bad dental hygeine that pupils will find enjoyable and that enhance learning.
A really easy example uses two hard boiled eggs. Place one of them in a glass of water and the other in a glass of a fizzy drink. Ask pupils to predict what will happen to each of the eggs, with reasons why they think this will happen. The next day you can remove the eggs from the glasses and see (hopefully) a huge difference between the two eggs. The one that has been left in water should be very clean; the one left in the fizzy drink will be badly discoloured. Ask pupils what they think these results will mean for their own body / health, then move on to the Healthy Teeth video.
