PhonicsAnywhere is an online resource for teaching early years reading using synthetic phonics. Designed with ease-of-use in mind, the online interface allows learners to log on and view flash cards, sorted either by sounds or by the various phases suggested in the Primary National Strategy for literacy.
Each set of flash cards displays one word at a time. The word is shown in full and then the component phonemes are pronounced, whilst the corresponding
graphemes are highlighted. Finally, the whole word is read out.
"High-quality phonic teaching… secures the crucial skills of word recognition that, once mastered, enable children to read fluently and automatically thus freeing them to concentrate on the meaning of the text." – (Primary Framework for Literacy and Mathematics 2006).
PhonicsAnywhere helps teachers to deliver this high level of teaching, ensuring the best possible start for early-years readers.
PhonicsAnywhere is free to try, simply click the "Phonics" tab above and you'll be able to access demonstration exercises covering a selection of words from Phases 1 and 2.
