Once you have installed Macromedia Contribute 3 and upgraded to the latest version, you can create a connection inside Contribute to your website. There are different ways of creating a connection, the following shows the easiest way.
Create Connection Wizard:
The easiest way to set up a connection is through the Create Connection Wizard - to do this, open up Contribute and type your school address into the address bar. Contribute will display the website in the main window, and will show a Create Connection button (shown in the top left corner of the image below), as well as a yellow warning sign informing you do not have a connection to this site. When you click on this button, a new window will appear with the title Connection Wizard.

The first page is where you have to enter the web address of your site (in this example, we will use www.webanywhere.co.uk). If you are already on the home page of your school website this will already be filled in.

The next page asks for you to enter your FTP details. There are multiple options for connecting to your web server: FTP, SFTP, Local/Network, and WebDAV. The email will already have specified which option to choose, along with any advanced settings that you need to set. These advanced settings are normally the reason why a connection key could not be automatically created for you, again the email will describe what settings need to be changed.

When you have entered the ftp server, username and the password, Contribute will test the connection to check if the details are correct. If so, it will ask for your user information - this lets anyone else who connects to the site in Contribute to see if anyone is currently editing a page. The page after this allows you to assign a role to your connection - Administrator, Writer or Publisher. A description of each is given when you select a role. By default the role is Administrator. When you click on Next Contribute finishes setting up the connection and you will be able to make changes to your website.
