Case study: Norris Bank Primary School
Norris Bank is a primary school in Stockport, Cheshire, serving the needs of almost 300 pupils. Since initially commissioning WebAnywhere to design and build the school website in 2006, the school have become a regular customer, using WebAnywhere products such as RadioAnywhere for podcasting; FeedbackAnywhere, which allows the school to post and report on online surveys; a virtual tour of the school and a bespoke guestbook.
Headteacher Howard Bousfield describes the school website as "a fantastic tool for communication with parents" and with the help of another member of staff, keeps the website up to date on a weekly basis, a process he describes as "as easy as 1, 2, 3".
The website is set as the default homepage for any pupil logging on to the computers in school, and serves as a gateway through which children access the wider Internet. There's plenty to do on the school's site itself, with regular displays of children's work and even podcasts featuring Norris Bank pupils. The Google SafeSearch function on the homepage ensures children performing web searches are not exposed to inappropriate material.
The school is currently working towards the Leading Parent Partnership award and is keen to involve parents in all aspects of school life. Through the school website parents can access policy documents, order forms and newsletters, and there's an area for the school's Parents' Association containing details of upcoming events and minutes of meetings. The FeedbackAnywhere survey software allows the school to quickly and easily survey parents' opinions on issues affecting their children's education.
