Below are free art teaching resources for teachers in UK schools to help you save time spent on lesson planning for Key Stages 1, 2, 3 and 4. Primary or secondary school art teachers may find these websites useful for developing their own lesson plans or for signposting their pupils to innovative online content.

Key Stage 1

The Lesson Sense Crafts Blog has a range of Flash cards and worksheets that are free to download.

The Starfall Art Gallery introduces six famous artists. It shows the work of Vincent Van Gogh, Georges Seurat, Paul Gauguin, Marc Chagall, Ernie Barnes and Dorothy Strait.

PrimaryResources.net has an Art Lesson Planning section with example plans, teacher tips, artist profiles and more.

Key Stage 2

NI Curriculum has a microsite with a Malleable Materials section. This offers a video guide to using clay work in the classroom.

The BBC Primary Art site is designed for 9 to 11 year olds and includes video guides on creating themed pictures.

Welsh resource Circles in Pictures is based on the work of Kandinsky and is ideal for use with an interactive whiteboard. With a tool bar and colour palette, pupils can create their own circles.

Key Stage 3

The Tate Gallery Kids website lets children view and rate existing art or develop their own personal gallery. There are sections for film and games.

ITV Art Attack has over 100 activities, games and downloads. There are useful tips and advice, and pupils can send in their work.

Access Art Visual Arts Teaching & Learning is an interactive website for teachers, offering a range of tips and advice.

Key Stage 4

Brushster is another online painting machine developed by the National Gallery of Art. This time the focus is on creating abstract work. It includes a slideshow of ideas.

Art Pad Digital Canvas lets you create your own works online and upload them to an e-gallery. You can view and comment on others' submissions. Suitable for all primary and secondary age groups.

The Artist's Toolkit allows pupils to explore concepts and techniques used by artists and allows them to create their own work.
