Video of the Month

A fantastic educational resource, run as a not-for-profit organisation to provide top quality educational videos free of charge. It has been heavily funded by organisations such as The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and Google in order to boost universal access to education.
The site offers over 3200 videos on a huge range of topics, delivering lesson and how-to-guides along with talks and interviews on education and test preparation resources (albeit with a US focus). Each video is a digestible chunk, approximately 10 minutes long.
The site also offers interactive exercises and quizzes to compliment the video material. Students using the site have a custom profile, and are awarded points and badges to measure progress, while educators have access to detailed information on their pupils activity on a class wide and individual basis, providing a great way to measure individual progress or need.
The videos can help create the ‘flipped classroom’, where topics are introduced out of school for students to digest at their own pace, with classroom time used for individual explanation and guidance and practical exercises based upon the subject matter of videos viewed.
The site continues to grow at a rapid pace, with more students accessing the Academy in one week than The Open University has had in its entire history!
