Whole School Projects via a VLE
May 25, 2011 // Comments OffWhole school projects via a VLE
One of our local schools asked me today about ways in which they can get pupils from key stages 1 and 2 working collaboratively on projects that are based on local heritage walks with work completed on the vle. They were particularly worried about what contribution they could get, that was worthwhile, from pupils in year 1.
My suggestion was to look carefully at the planning of a heritage walk. Identify different parts of the walk for KS 1 pupils to look at in groups. The groups can then:
- take photos or video clips of the main features of the site
- record a short audio description of the sites key features
These can then be uploaded to the vle. This could be done in a prepared wiki, or as uploaded attachments in forum posts. In a wiki format the older pupils can then be asked to write captions and a narrative to describe each photo / feature.
In effect this allows pupils of any age to collaborate on the development of a virtual tour based on the heritage walk, or could lead to the creation of a ‘walkers guide’ for use by other pupils or parents.
