Useful online tools for teachers and pupils

These are a handful of handy free online tools that can be used to enhance teaching and learning.

GeoGebra is free mathematics software that creates interactive graphs, spreadsheets and so on. really easy to install and use it is supported by a worldwide network of academics who are researching its use and implementation in the classroom. There’s a pretty large community of people sharing ideas on their forum as well.

Evernote is a really easy to use note making application. You simply add tags / notes to webpages and files and Evernote makes them really easy to search through at a later date. Very handy if, like me, you’re forever researching things. If you’re bookmarking and file organisation isn’t quite as organised as it could be then Evernote will be a really useful tool.

Jing allows you to take a picture or make a short video of what you see on your computer monitor. It’s really handy for demonstrating things to pupils and the resulting screencasts can be shared instantly via web, email, IM, Twitter or your blog. using something like jing could result in some really exciting assessment opportunities and peer review sessions via your VLE.

Mindomo is a free mindmapping tool which is a great tool to use when planning or revising.

Piknic.com is a free online photo editing site. You can fix your photos in just one click, use advanced controls to fine-tune your results, rop, resize, and rotate in real-time. Really quick and easy to use, it has plenty of potential uses in the classroom.

Student Jotter is our E-Portfolio offering for students. It’s an easy way of giving pupils an online presence thats safe and secure and is really easy to use.
